Made: Bibs

Today I sent a couple of baby bibs to friends in Perth

to test drive on their new daughter, Kimberly.

Got the pattern from Poopockets -

hopefully it's the right size. babies are small.

Space Invaders Canvas Art Tutorial

Here is a mini tutorial of how I did this artwork:
You need:
3 Stretched Canvases
Paint (Acrylic preferably)
Iron on transfer sheets
Stanley Knife

1. Create your design on computer or as a drawing. I designed my space invader artwork in Photoshop and printed it onto the iron-on transfer sheets.
2. Use stanley knife to cut out each design element.
3. Paint base colour -twice for a deeper, richer hue. Let paint dry completely - I used a hair dryer.
4. Iron up iron-on design elements. Place a dictionary under the canvas for better support.
5. Paint in the iron-on elements - the effect you want, is a slight 3D depth to the elements as they are raised by the iron-on

Pom Pom the hot night away

It was a Very Hot Day today in Melbourne. Forty-three degrees celsius. yuk. sticky.

Won't get a decent night's rest cos no A/C dudes and dudettes... and nothing to do other than wilt in front of the fan, drinking ice water and taking many cold showers...

Pity. Want to make a pom pom necklace! tutorial is done thanks to bleubirdvintage via cup of jo. one for winter eh?

Start with N.E.E.T Magazine - I happily 'happenstanced' upon this online mag just recently (although it's been around since 2005). You may know it... well - do revisit! there's a new blog and twitter thing going on.

Two things that drew me in while browsing Issue #017 December 2009:

1. Gorgeous atmospheric photos.

2. Jam-packed full of... advertisements...? Stylish indie girl looks from all over the world!

My highlights:

1. tutorial on shining happy headbands;

2. the featurette on Melbourne, Australia... (check this heading: "...stylish stores in the seaport city of Melbourne." True, but not as quaint as the word 'seaport' would suggest.); and

3. article on 'the 10 cent designer' - interior design for the budget- and 'coolness-' conscious.
