Hunger Game Nails Tutorial

This post is dedicated to my lil' cousin who wants her nails like Katniss when she goes to see Hunger Games. It's a great tutorial by Cutepolish but I reckon start at 0:43 to skip to the chase.

It looks rather time consuming, ( I barely have time for my quick dry nailpolish) but I love the idea of the plastic sheet.

Headstart on the knitting

Recently finished project!  Started and finished on a few of the rainy nights in Melbourne recently.  

Can't remember the title of the book I got the pattern from - something like "One Skein of Yarn".   So one skein of yarn made two little beanies - one for a newborn and one to grow into.  The 'umbrella' pattern around the edges was definitely better looking the second time around (see top bigger one).  I didn't mind.  A newborn ain't gonna notice a bunch of missed stitches!

What to do with potholes

All the gas meters down our street got relocated from the back of the house to the front... and the gas people had to dig up our street.  See first picture with what they left:

It was soft fill and really patchy so the kids next door dug up holes... and R even wrote an irate email to the council about the poor job.

We could just leave it and when the holes get bigger put some knitting over it!

How to decorate when you rent

It must surely be the struggle of many a renter to inject their own personality and style into their home in a 'non-permanent' fashion.  This requires much resourcefulness.  Take the following example that really inspired me.

I don't know that I would have this kind of patience (or skill?) but look at what a sheet of contact paper and a craft knife can achieve!

Jason Wu Pre-Fall 2012 (Style.com)

Was in Country Road on Collins Street at lunch and they had a sign above coloured skinny pants "jeggings" - not the lycra blend, actual denim/cotton blend.  Anyway - unfortunately got reminded of this when I saw pictures of the clothes from Jason Wu (...not jeggings!).
